This week has been full of starts and stops in our schooling. We certainly haven't accomplished as much as I would have liked. But educating our kids is not all checking boxes in Homeschool Skedtrack. This week we only managed to stay on track with math, writing, read-alouds, and his Sunday School homework. Sunday school homework requires daily prayers and a far amount of work, so we can't wait for Saturday night at bedtime to get started. We tried once and it wasn't pretty!
The kids have been having a fabulous time playing together. Rich, imaginative play. The kind of play you want to point to and say, "Sure my kids did little formal schooling today, but they built a library in the cubby under Marcus' bed."
Stuart (who was supposed to be working on Sunday School homework) wanders out of the schoolroom and starts telling me about the main tribe of barbarians attacking the Roman Empire. I said, "Oh no! I just realized that we only have one chapter left in our history book. I haven't started requesting [from the library] the books for the first chapters of the new history book!" I then asked Stuart to go get the new activity book for me. He said, "I have to go write down my sacrifices."
He just ran in and asked me how to spell "though".
Sometimes, when I get frustrated, I remind myself that he doesn't really need "school at home". He just needs an education. That doesn't have to involve workboxes, worksheets, coloring pages, assignments, etc. He's doing really well, ahead on probably everything, and I shouldn't stress.
He just brought me both activity books. I still have to get the books for the last chapter of the old book. Including three Dr. Seuss books in Latin. Fun! I hope the library has them.
