Welcome back, Steve!

A few months ago, Stuart hit a wall in his math. I decided to switch him from Math-u-See (which I love) to a completely different program--Singapore Math. Singapore doesn't have video instruction, so it doesn't have Steve (Demme).  I'm sure Singapore works well for many people, but it was a terrible fit for me. The topics were arranged so differently from Math-u-See that I had to backtrack quite a bit to keep from missing important topics like, oh, multiplication. But we also had to backtrack even more because the philosophy is so different. Not in a bad way--that philosophy is what drew me to the program in the first place. But we never got to the new material! One unit away from multiplication--today--Stuart asked if he could go back to Math-u-See. And I was so very, very ready to comply. Within a minute, Steve (the video instructor) was back on our TV. I have never been more thrilled to have my son tell me someone was better than me. Steve does a much better job introducing math topics than I do, no contest. I'm just so happy to pass the baton back to our house's favorite math teacher.

Yes, that's a hula hoop on the floor in the first picture. I bought it on a whim last night, and I'm so glad I did. Right now it's a giant net ring to capture bad guys.

Here Stuart is back to building multi-digit addition problems. Hooray! I really hope this program sticks this time.
